If you’ve been wondering about reducing product give-away with your check weighing solutions, this article will help. Read on to learn more about-weighing solutions and reducing product giveaways!

Important Facts

The Flexus has reduced any giveaway for the customer by up to five tonnes per day. It has also negated the main requirement for offline sampling, reducing staff costs and time.

The Application and the Products

The Flexus twin land check weigher was built to the customer’s precise specification to help ensure seamless integration into their existing manufacturing lines, including spacing of twin lanes to help match existing conveyors, which saved time and money while reconfiguring them. The Flexus offers plenty of high-speed check weighing: rejects products that do not meet the minimum fill level and automatically controls the fill level upstream. One product used is the Flexus twin lane check weigher with a reject arm with a custom converging conveyor.

The Customer Benefits

Reduced giveaways, automated check weighing, automated fill-level adjustments, and reduced costs for staff are all benefits for customers while using the Flexus twin lane check weigher.

The Goal of the Project and Implementation

One particular customer noticed that tins of pet food they were manufacturing were being overfilled at a time when key ingredients were rising in cost. To reduce the overall giveaway, this customer’s goal was to reduce the weight of every tin of pet food by 3g by weighing each tin and using the statistics to control can fillers. A customer had been conducting random sampling using a Minebea Intec scale linked to the SPC@Enterprise software system. Data from this system highlighted that the high level of giveaway mixed with the high cost of ingredients was needed to introduce a better system to control it. In response, Minebea Intec recommended a high-speed check weigher to help remove the requirement for sampling by checking the weight of every can and reducing give-away to an absolute minimum. A twin-lane machine was built with spaced lanes to help meet the incoming conveyors on the existing line; after weighing, a system was supplied to converge the tines back into one line. The check weigher weighed 12.5 cans a second and rejected under-fills.
