Aqua Shipping supplies its Norwegian fish farms with special feed by sea. In previous years, the feed was filled on shore into big bags, weighed, and then transported by ship to the floating fish farm. New silo ships now go right to the farm and fill up there.
The Application and Products Used
For precise and traceable weighing of the feed, local cells were installed underneath the silos. For every silo, a weighing indicator transmits the measurement signals to a PC, which will simultaneously correct the gravitational constant through a GPS. The products used were load cells PR 6201 and weighing indicator X3.

The Goal of the Project and the Implantation
The Norwegian supplier of seafood and fish Aqua Shipping looked to optimize its processes in the field of fish farm logistics. In the past, the storage and the filling of an accounting for fish feed took place on the land. The fish feed was transported by a freighter to the logistics base on ground, unloaded on conveyor belts, and filled into silos with the help of a nozzle, before it was filled into big bags, weighed, and transported onto a transport ship to the fish farms. The plan to fill and deliver fish feed right on the spot and not via land was difficult. The Danish company Fjordvejs Maskin-fabrik A/S designed a special freighter with various silos. A big number of security aspects were taken into account during this process. High demands were then placed on the weighing solution. Fjordvejs brought Minebea Intect Sales Partner Global Weighing A/S into their project, which opted for load cells and other weighing electronics by Minbea Intec. The Pt 6201 load cell distinguishes itself through its reliability and accurate measurement results. Together with an X3 weighing indicator, the load cells provided a durable solution, even in hard environments.
