For a new polypropylene plant with an annual production capacity of about 450 kilotons, weighing solutions were required to withstand even the most adverse environmental conditions. Polypropylene is the second most common kind of standard plastic used in packaging.

Minebea Intec has supplied a specially designed weighing solution for weighing of an emptying tank for cleaning polypropylene granulates and tanks with waste and other raw materials. Some products used are:

The Project Objective and Implementation Process
The plant produces the whole spectrum of polypropylene products, like homopolymers, random copolymers, and other impact copolymers. For two applications, precise weighing solutions are required that deliver accurate results even under challenging conditions. The weighing technology has to be able to keep operating correctly and without any disruptions after events like heavy rain, hurricanes, earthquakes, and frost. Braskem awarded the planning and installation of weighing technology to Linde Engineering, which chose considering technology from Minebea Intec. Mineabea Intec then developed three platform scales in different sizes for weighing tanks with other raw and waste materials.
The weighing solution guarantees maximum safety even with high lateral forces. Per customer request, project-specific dummy load cells and pressure and foot pieces for the load cells were made. These different solutions help enable the load cells to be replaced without issues once a maximum of only 5 mm lifts up the container.
