Weighing Christmas Trees

Weighing Christmas Trees

Heavy lifting specialist Sarens is utilizing a 100t Crosby|SP load cell to weigh Christmas trees for deliveries.

Heavy lifting specialist Sarens is utilizing a 100t Crosby|SP load cell to weigh Christmas trees for delivery of seven 85t Christmas trees for a significant oil and gas company. It used Crosby|SP’s 1,000 (3,280 ft) range SW-HHP handheld reading device. The trees are stored in Nacala-Porto, a city on Mozambique’s northern coast, where an oilfield services company will sell them.

Sarens

Sarens, a provider of heavy lifting and engineered transport and crane rental services, is responsible for emptying the trees from a vessel, moving them to the site, and offloading them to temporary storage. In addition, Sarens chose a 250t capacity Demag CC1100 crawler crane to perform lifting operations. The lifting operations supervisor at Sarens, Julio Paco, is responsible for preparing the daily lift plan, overseeing each lifting operation, conducting talks with each operation’s personnel, and sending weekly and monthly reports to the office. He also explained that Sarens’ scope of work includes testing and inspection to ensure that the trees are working correctly before they are transported onto a job site.

The Process of Weighing Christmas Trees

To weigh Christmas trees, they are identical and measure approximately 17.8 ft by 16.6 ft. For each tree, Paco and his team used different items of rigging gear, including slings, chains, and shackles, which were provided from Sarens’ local stock. Additionally, the products range from low capacity up to 250t items. They also had to supply two crane operators and two banks to cover two shifts. Moreover, speed and efficiency of service are imperative to service delivery. Knowing the weight of items as they follow their supply chain is an essential component of that work. The Radiolink plus can perform readings at a safe distance using a handheld device.

Crosby|SP

Fortunately, Crosby|SP also provides an extensive range of ATEX/IECEx products. It recently improved the ATEX Handheld plus with numerous additions: overload and calibration warnings are now shown on a larger screen. Lastly, the operator can now read up to four SP load cells simultaneously to supervise a multi-pick point lift from a single handheld system.
